How the resin cost is calculated

Material cost is (print volume ÷ bottle content in ml) × bottle price — when the bottle is sold by weight, the content is weight ÷ density (1 kg at 1.1 g/ml ≈ 909 ml). The waste percentage covers resin lost to vat residue, washing and spills — 10% is a realistic default; supports are already included in the slicer volume, so don't count them here. The failure rate then divides the whole per-attempt cost — resin, electricity, amortized consumables and wash/cure supplies — by(1 − failure rate), because a failed print still consumes all of them. With more than one model per plate, the breakdown also splits the plate cost per model.

Where do I find the volume of my resin print?
Your slicer reports it after slicing — Lychee, Chitubox and PrusaSlicer all show resin used in millilitres on the print summary. Enter that number directly; it already includes supports if you generated them before slicing.

What failure rate should I use for resin printing?
5–10% is realistic for a well-tuned printer with validated exposure settings. Raise it when dialing in a new resin, printing tall hollow parts with suction-cup risk, or running large plates where one failed piece scraps the batch. The calculator divides the whole per-attempt cost by (1 − failure rate) — the mathematically correct expected cost per success — and that includes electricity, amortized consumables and wash/cure supplies too, because a failed print still consumes them. Tools that add a flat markup on resin alone understate the cost of failures.

What does the extra waste percentage cover?
Resin that never ends up in the part: drips and film residue left in the vat, resin washed off in the IPA bath, suction cups that drain on removal, and the odd spill or curing loss. 5–10% is a sane default. Do not count supports here — the slicer volume you enter already includes them, so adding them again would double-charge them.

What should I count in the wash and cure cost per print?
Supplies used once per print or per batch: nitrile gloves, paper towels, filters. €0.20–€0.50 per print covers a typical small-batch setup. FEP film and IPA that last many prints are better entered in the dedicated cost/lifespan fields so they amortize per print — do not count them in both places.

Is cost per ml just the bottle price divided by 1000?
Only if the bottle really holds 1000 ml. Resin is usually sold by weight, and at a typical density of 1.1 g/ml a 1 kg bottle holds about 909 ml — not 1000 ml — so the true price per ml is bottle price ÷ 909, roughly 10% higher than ÷ 1000. Switch the bottle unit to g/kg and set your resin density (from the datasheet) and the conversion is done for you.

Does this include electricity and machine wear?
Electricity is optional: enter print time, printer power and your kWh rate and it shows as its own breakdown row. Resin printers draw little power (often under 100 W), so this is usually cents per print. Machine wear itself is not modelled, but FEP film and wash fluid wear can be amortized with the cost/lifespan fields.
